Man of War is a military action movie so the action is mostly gunplay. But Daniel Bernhardt is the villain so you know there will be a fight in the end. LaMonica Garrett acquits himself well as the tunnelvision hero who gains a conscience on the mission. But he also holds his own against Bernhardt.
Former Navy SEAL Connor (Garrett) goes into the Ukraine when his niece disappears doing aid work. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is the latest war for a movie like this, but it does show the impact on Ukrainians and humanizes the headlines.
On Blu-ray, you’ll mostly see forests and Bulgaria substituting for bombed out Ukraine. It’s blue tinted at night, giving the action a consistent aesthetic.
Shootouts echo in surround sound but there’s not too much back and forth in the rears.
No bonus features but trailers for other action and horror releases could get you excited for more.
