Roofman 4K UHD Review: Toys 4K Us

Roofman was a stranger than fiction true story that came out at the end of last year. The 4K UHD release emphasizes the true story and presents the film in an ideal format. Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum) escaped prison where he was serving a sentence for robbing McDonald’s restaurants by breaking in through the roof in the ‘90s. On the lam in 2004, he hid in a Toys R Us.

Filming on 35mm is rare these days but Derek Cianfrance did it. Now you can see the grain on the 4K. When the events occurred, Hollywood was still using film so now Roofman looks like a contemporary film had it been made immediately after Manchester’s crimes. The Toys R Us is bright while the night sky outside the store is deep.

There is no major surround sound to notice.

Extras focus on the true story and the real people playing roles in the film. Creating a Toys R Us after their 2018 bankruptcy provides a production design challenge, which they met thoroughly.

Deleted scenes show more of Manchester goofing off in Toys R Us after hours and scenes between staff during the day shift.
