The Emperor’s New Groove was one of the last old school Disney 2D animated movies. And after the turmoil of a major revision and cutting out many of Sting’s original songs, it still ended up one of the funniest.
Even with David Spade’s timely improvs, the comedy still holds up. Maybe I still remember his pop culture references, but mostly it’s his attitude. Buh-bye never goes out of style.
A sleeper 25 Christmases ago, it is now restored in 4K. The gold of Kuzco’s palage actually shines in 4K. Yzma’s lab is a bright red against a pure black background and the jungle includes jet black jaguars and bats.
Surround sound really kicks in with this too as rain and jungle rustling fills from behind.
It is a shame the digital 4K does not include any of the bonus feautres, so hang onto your DVDs!
