It seems a bit soon for a new Five Nights at Freddy’s edition, but there is a sequel coming out next month so why not? The big asset of this collector’s edition is that it comes in a Freddy Fazbear’s pizza box.
The 4K UHD of the film looks nice. It’s set in the dark, abandoned family pizza joint with animatronics stalking through the dark arcade. Only pinball lights and game screens provide any illumination. The purest darkness is the night sky outside. There’s also Josh Hutcherson zoning out to nature sounds in the storage room.
It makes the daytime scenes at home, in the pharmacy, and the woods starkly bright and clear.
The sound contributes to the horror with whizzing, whirring animatronic parts all around you. If you can’t get their song out of your head, it won’t help that it echoes in the rear speakers. The clomping metal footsteps add intensity to Freddy Fazbear’s rampage.
The steelbook edition includes the bonus features on adapting the game and designing the animatronics and Fazbear’s set. It’s a nice way to catch up before the sequel.
