This animated variation of the Batman saga is an HBO MAX reject.
Bat-Fam is a spinoff sequel to the animated movie Merry Little Batman, which was released on Prime Video in December 2023. Both projects were originally in development for HBO Max but were shelved in 2022 by Warner Bros. as part of the company’s larger cost-cutting methods. Both projects, as well as the separate series Batman: Caped Crusader, were ultimately acquired by Prime Video.
Batman fans will recognize several prominent characters from the Batman mythos on the Bat-Fam poster, such as Batman (still sporting his beard from the animated film Merry Little Batman), Alfred Pennyworth, Damian Wayne/Little Batman, Man-Bat, and Ra’s al Ghul. The cartoon will also feature a new character, Alicia Pennyworth, the grandniece of Alfred, as well as Claire/Volcana, who is typically a Superman villain but in the show will be Batman’s ward.
That being said, I’m not sure this series is for me. I tried to watch MERRY LITTLE BATMAN when it came out, but couldn’t get through it…
