Sleepaway Camp II and III 4K UHD Reviews: 4Kamp

I only ever saw the Sleepaway Camp movies on VHS, so Blu-ray was a major upgrade. Now 4K UHD probably looks better than they ever did even if screened in theaters.

The low-budget back to back sequels were shot in a real forest, so location work captured in 35mm automatically elevates it above today’s mainstream screen films, let alone microbudget horror. The campgrounds are lush and bright in the sun, and hold up well at night.

Scream Factory already did in-depth bonus features for the Blu-rays and those are still included. The two part making of feature is especially informative about the nuts and bolts of ‘80s financing and production.

But new extras include author Jeff Hayes who shares things he learned from researching his book on the Sleepaway Camp franchise. Sleepaway Camp II star Brian Patrick Clarke is pretty frank about trying to launch a movie career from soaps, and being older than many of his co-stars.

The interview with the makeup effects artist is a given, but interviews with stunt coordinator and theme songs writer/singer John Allyn are treats. III especially begins with an impressive stunt, and the songs are catchy.
