Frailty 4K UHD Collector’s Set Review: Me4ks Inherit

Bill Paxton proved himself a fine director with the music video to “Fish Heads.” But it wasn’t until he directed the horror movie Frailty that Hollywood caught on. We only got one more Paxton directed movie but he was just acting still.

The 4K UHD really brings out the moody southern gothic of Frailty. Paxton’s father character brings presumed demons to the shed at night, and the high dynamic range only gets darker throughout.

Before then, light pierces through the cracks in the barn, and sitting in the kitchen w the curtains drawn also evokes darkness. The modern day police office does too, but even more so when grown up Fenton (Matthew McConaughey) sits in the back of the police car.

Surround sound really kicks in when they touch the demons and feel their sins.

New Lionsgate Limited extras combine new interviews with archival sound bites from Paxton and McConaughey. It’s fun when they cut from Jeremy Sumpter and Matt O’Leary as kids to them as adults in 2025. They reunite as adults too.

Plus, all original dvd commentary and interviews. The packaging has some fun American Gothic style family photos of the cast.
