According to Deadline, Fox is now moving forward with an X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants, and has brought Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) to direct the film. Boone will co-write the screenplay with Knate Gwaltney, with Simon Kingberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner producing the film.

The New Mutants was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, and first appeared in December 1982. According to Wikipedia, the original team consisted of Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Karma, Dani Moonstar, and Professor X. Like any other Team, the roster has changed from time to time.

Here’s what Kinberg told Deadline about the upcoming spinoff.

“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”
