My Thoughts
I give The Mimic Blu-ray a B+.
The Mimic is a Korean Horror film that is based on the myth of the “Tiger of Mt. Jang”. It is a ghost that can mimic the sounds of humans.
I really enjoyed this Blu-ray as Asian Horror is one of my favorite genres (and it’s not because I’m half Korean). I like a good old fashion ghost story at times and I also like seeing things out of the ordinary. There was one thing in particular that stood out to me about this film. When the mother invites the little girl that she saw in the woods earlier into her home, The director focused the camera on the little girl’s foot entering the home. It goes with the saying, “Evil can only be invited into your home”. That one little detail added so much to the film.
I also like the myth this movie is behind. I didn’t see it as a ghost but more like a demon. But what was crazy is that it could lure you in by mimicking the voices of your loved ones, friends, co-workers, etc. It preyed on your weakness. In this case, the mother’s son had been missing. You knew the little girl was a ghost but at the same time, her innocence kept you on your toes. You didn’t know whether to trust her or look the other way.
Catch The Mimic out on Blu-ray June 12th!
