Marvel and “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon have tried to keep any spoilers from leaking out before the movie debuts at the beginning of May. However, there is a rumor that a second villain will be joining Thor’s nemesis and main bad guy Loki on the battlefield. Captain America’s archenemy The Red Skull has been vaulted to the top of the villain list for “The Avengers” feature. His name has passed such notable bad guys and alien races as Thanos, Annihilus, the Kree, and the Skrulls.
The slip did not come from the set or a studio source. It came from an on-line toy store. On the main page for the website bigbadtoystore.com they had NECA’s Avengers Heroclix available for pre-order. They are estimated to arrive in March. Here’s the description for the Countertop Display:
“Charging straight out of theaters and onto your tabletop, the Avengers Movie HeroClix set features heroes like Captain America and Thor as they battle the villainy of the Red Skull and Loki! Each Counter-Top display includes standard one-figure boosters as well as new three-figure “Team Packs”! Team Packs are designed with strong thematic undertones – play a Hydra force or defend freedom with a S.H.I.E.L.D. team pack!
Each Countertop Display includes 24 single figures plus 4 Team Packs of 3 figures each, with 6 unique Team Packs to collect!
Product Number: NEC11794
Shipping Weight: 2.45 pounds”
This by no means makes The Red Skull a lock as the secondary villain, but it does give the character strong support to be there. At the end of the “Captain America” film, The Red Skull was banished into another realm, as was Loki in “Thor.” These two bad guys meeting and teaming up is highly probable.
On the other side of the coin, NECA’s Heroclix could include villains that the Avengers have fought before (in the comic books.) Also, the company might have borrowed villains seen in previously released Marvel films. What do you think?
