Marvel Film’s co-President Kevin Fiege was recently interviewed about the upcoming Marvel movies hitting theaters this summer. He dropped this important little tidbit about two of the characters from “The Avengers” who may receive their own spin-off films. Actors Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye,) and Scarlett Johansson (The Black Widow) are being considered to star in their own features. Also, it is possible a S.H.I.E.L.D. film will go into development.
Interviewed by Playlist’s Leah Zak, Fiege had this to say:
“There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett Johansson about what a Widow movie could be. Internally we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the organization S.H.I.E.L.D., which has a pretty big part in Thor, smaller parts in the two Iron Man films and has a giant part in The Avengers. [So it’s like], what would a stand-alone S.H.I.E.L.D. be like? It all goes back to the comics. Sometimes the answer is-when looking at a certain run of issues- ‘no way’ and sometimes the answer is ‘maybe, let’s continue to explore it’ and certainly with Hawkeye and Black Widow those are two that we’re exploring.”
Last month, Fiege discussed sequels to “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” He indicated that sequels are contingent on how well their initial debut is at the box office. Fans are excited to see these comic book icons on the big screen.
“Thor” will hit theaters Friday, while “Captain America: The First Avenger” will premiere on July 22. (This will happen when San Diego’s Comic Con is in full swing.)
“The Avengers” is currently shooting on location in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is scheduled for a May 4th, 2012 release. Joss Whedon directs this super hero epic.
