Disney was dead serious about Star Wars every year…
As announced today by Disney and Lucasfilm, the new Star Wars spin-off film to follow episode VII has found not only its director but a screenwriter as well. The man who helmed the latest Godzilla film, Gareth Edwards will direct the first Star Wars spin-off film. “In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga,” says the press release. “Gareth Edwards will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.”
Gary Whitta’s previous screenwriting credits include The Book of Eil and After Earth, in addition to those he also wrote a few episodes of Telltale’s acclaimed Walking Dead game.
