David Prowse, who embodied the iconic Darth Vader suit in the original Star Wars trilogy has announced he will retire from fan conventions and personal appearances starting in 2018. Currently, Prowse only makes appearances in the UK where he resides. In 2016 David Prowse announced he would not be attending fan conventions in the U.S. due to health reasons. Beginning in January 2018, Dave will no longer be doing any personal appearances or conventions due to health problems.

In the 2015 documentary, Elstree 1976 David Prowse spoke about his appreciation of Star Wars fans and how much he enjoyed interacting with them at various events. Prowse also briefly touched on his belief why he hasn’t been invited to any recent official Star Wars fan events or conventions and has made it known about his disappointment not being able to play Anakin Skywalker in final scenes of Return Of The Jedi.
