Scream 7 4K UHD Review: Mother and 4Khild

Scream 7 brought back Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson. For me, this was much more true to the original than recent sequels. I really appreciated seeing Sydney as a mom now trying to navigate being a true crime celebrity and not wanting to be too overprotective, but her motherly worries are not irrational.

The self-referential commentary was revolutionary in Scream but Williamson actually minimizes that and trusts his characters. Having a child (Isabel May) old enough to ask about her most traumatic experience raises dramatic issues of how much to share and how painful it is to talk about.

In 4K UHD, Scream 7 boasts a lot of dark rooms and dark night roads where Ghostface can pop out. The sound has some subtle surround effects with flames in the rear, some media horde clamoring for quotes and voices in different channels in the finale.

A full set of behind the scenes features includes interviews and on-set footage, with specific explorations of the stunt and gore setups.

With Lionsgate releasing Scream 4 on 4K UHD steelbook recently, this completes the franchise on 4K too.
