Rapper/Actor RZA and actress Misty Upham have been cast in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.” RZA has collaborated with Quentin previously, while this will be Upham’s first foray into Tarantino territory.
The Abbott, RZA, scored the music for Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Vol. 1,” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2.” RZA will play the part of Thaddeus, a violent slave working on a Mississippi plantation in this western/drama.
Native American actress Misty Upham will portray Minnie, a trading post/bar owner. Upham is best known for her 2008 performance as Lila Littlewolf in “Frozen River.” Upham received an American Indian Movie Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for the film.
The storyline for “Django Unchained” is as follows:
In the 1800’s south, slave-turned-bounty hunter Django (Jamie Foxx) teams up with a German doctor (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from the sadistic and brutal slave master and Mississippi plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio.)
The Weinstein Company will distribute “Django” domestically on Christmas Day next year, while Sony Pictures will handle distribution internationally.
“Django Unchained” is scheduled to begin production this month, and will come to theaters on December 25th, 2012. The film will star Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Zoe Bell, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette, Kerry Washington, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, M.C. Gainey, Lewis Smith, RZA, Misty Upham, Anthony LaPaglia, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Quentin Tarantino wrote the original screenplay and will also direct.
