And the Spider-Man casting rumors continue as Latino Review’s El Mayimbe is reporting that Marvel and Sony have chosen 18 year old Asa Butterfield to be the new Spider-Man and play Peter Parker in the MCU and the standalone films for Sony.
There’s no doubt Butterfield has the acting chops as seen in Hugo and Ender’s Game, but take the news with a grain of salt since this news isn’t confirmed by marvel or Sony as of yet. butterfield has been in the news as one of the front runners for Spider-Man against Heart of The Sea actor Tom Holland.
Again Marvel has not confirmed this casting news or if Butterfield is in negotiations all together. And if he is in negotiations let’s just take in consideration what happened with Joaquin Phoenix was in talks for Doctor Strange before backing out.
The new Spider-Man will make his first appearance in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which is currently in production in Atlanta for a May 2016 release date. Sony will then release a standalone Spider-Man movie, produced by Marvel’s Kevin Feige, on July 28, 2017.
