Actor Ron Perlman had a chance to address fans at a Q&A at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on Saturday. While there, a question burning on everyone’s mind was, will there be a “Hellboy 3?” While throwing punches into the air like a champion prize fighter, Perlman had this to say.
“I’ve been giving Guillermo body shots for two years. We both walked away from Hellboy II agreeing that there would never be another one. But, with the passage of time, it became clear to me that he really always designed it as a trilogy. He has a very well-articulated idea of what the resolve would look like and it’s amazingly theatrical and is epic in scope and would make for amazing cinema, with or without the first two movies.”
He continued.
“But there are so many questions posed in the first two films that absolutely need to be answered. I said, ‘You owe it to the world to finish this trilogy.’ I’ve been giving him Jewish guilt.”
Perlman acknowledges del Toro’s time working on numerous other projects makes it hard to get “Hellboy 3” on track.
“He’s just so busy, but I’m going to keep working away at the body. I’m pushing seventy so he better f^@#ing do this soon.”
When last we left Hellboy, the Golden Army had been defeated, and Hellboy’s pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) informed “Red” that he would be the father of twins.
“Hellboy” opened in theaters on April 2, 2004, and it went on to earn a total worldwide gross of $99.3 million.
“Hellboy II: The Golden Army” opened in theaters on July 11, 2008, and it went on to earn a total worldwide gross of $160.3 million.
Note: Both Perlman and del Toro are involved with this summer’s anticipated blockbuster film “Pacific Rim,” which is due in theaters on July 12.
