This report comes from Polygon, in which the author claims that they’ve heard from reliable sources close to Microsoft that the company is looking to purchase Electronic Arts, the publisher behind Mass Effect, Battlefield, and Star Wars Battlefront. They have also heard rumblings about the company also buying Valve- former game developer and current owner of Steam- and PUBG Corp., developer of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The latter would make too much sense considering they have a console-exclusive deal with PUBG.
Now what could any of these acquisitions mean for Microsoft? Each of these companies have some big IPs under their belts, but to say Microsoft would make Star Wars an Xbox-only title might be oversimplifying it. However, we could all dream that them acquiring Valve would mean a future for the Half-Life series.
Either way, it is too soon to tell since nothing has been confirmed yet, but it’s safe to assume that these are ideas Microsoft has right now. We will keep you updated on this story as it develops.
