The magazine dubs the film a “bloody, brutal new western” and the “meanest, grittiest, deadliest movie of the year.” The Hateful Eight is set several years after the Civil War. John “The Hangman” Ruth (Russell,) a fugitive named Daisy Domergue (Leigh,) through snowy Wyoming to Red Rock to bring her to justice. On the EW cover, Russell holds a shotgun and is handcuffed to Leigh, who appears with a black eye and a bloody scratch on the side of her chin.

In the process, “eight of the West’s nastiest gunslingers” get trapped in a “snowbound frontier way station, each wrapped in as many layers of deceit as they are clothing,” EW reports.

This is Tarantino’s first film since 2013’s Django Unchained, which won him an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. No U.S. release date has been announced at this time, but the film will open in Israel on November 13th.

Hateful Eight is expected to open in theaters sometime later this year. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, Zoë Bell, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Demian Bichir, James Parks, Lee Horsley, Gene Jones, Craig Stark, Dana Gourrier, Bruce Del Castillo, Belinda Owino and Keith Jefferson. Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay and directs.
