My Thoughts

I give the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Blu-ray a B+.

I haven’t honestly seen a Pirates of the Caribbean film since the first one, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl which was released in 2003.   I loved Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow then and I still do now.

There are many things I loved about this Blu-ray.  One was the special effects.  It wasn’t overly CGI’d or if it was it didn’t look it one bit.  The “skeleton crew” of Captain Salazar and even Captain Salazar himself (played by Javier Bardem) was amazing.  They were hauntingly scary and I could imagine them popping up in a nightmare or two.  The Pirate ships.  Who wouldn’t love them!  The Black Pearl when it erected from the bottle was just plain beautiful.  One magnificent ship.  Yes, it may be a bit gothic but beautiful at the same time.  The cinematography was just as amazing.  I found myself looking more at the scenery than the actors. As stated above I also loved Jonny Depp as Jack Sparrow.  Just a brilliant performance yet again by an amazing actor.

Catch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales out on Blu-ray, DVD, & Digital HD Tuesday, October 3rd.
