After news broke yesterday that Tim Burton would be directing a live-action remake of Dumbo, PETA has wasted no time in asking the director to change the ending of the film.
In a open letter Wednesday from PETA to Burton, PETA senior VP Lisa Lange wrote:
“We’re hopeful that in your adaptation of Dumbo, the young elephant and his mother can have a truly happy ending by living out their lives at a sanctuary instead of continuing to be imprisoned and abused in the entertainment industry.”
In the 1941 Disney Classic, Dumbo was separated from his mother.
Lange also added that PETA does like the original film “because it tells the story of the heartbreaking abuse that elephants in circuses endure.”
Burton’s live-action Dumbo will have a mix of live-action and CGI.
