It looks like there’s another event that has succumbed to the tight restrictions California is currently under due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The producers of Midsummer Scream have come to the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event in the interest of public safety. Midsummer Scream was set to return to the Long Beach Convention Center on July 31st- August 2nd. This would have been the first time the event was scheduled for three days of Halloween goodness! We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate decision but we thoroughly understand it is in the best interest of everyone to postpone this event. But fret not trick or treaters and spooky kids, the producers of Midsummer Scream promise to return to the Long Beach Convention Center July 9th- 11th of 2021. You can check out our photo recap from last year’s event right here.
Here is the official statement below.
To Our Beloved Fans and Community:
We are saddened to announce the cancellation of Midsummer Scream 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19. However, we’re excited to announce that plans are already underway for Midsummer Scream 2021 to take place July 9 to 11 at the Long Beach Convention Center.
Tickets already purchased will be automatically transferred and honored for Midsummer Scream 2021. Current ticket holders are encouraged to retain their tickets to keep the current rate. Ticket holders may also receive a refund by visiting this page and submitting a request.
As state and government officials have advised that life won’t return to “normal” for months, our team discussed and deliberated at length a variety of contingency plans in hopes of keeping Midsummer Scream going in 2020. Each fell short of our promise to deliver the show this community wants and deserves. The heartbreaking decision to cancel is seen as the best way to serve our community and encourage everyone to stay safe and healthy so we may rally and support Halloween events in Southern California this fall.
Midsummer Scream will continue to remain engaged with our community as champions of Halloween, haunters, and fans everywhere year-round. This will come in the form of spooky new merchandise, social media engagement, and pop-up events as soon as conditions allow, including our annual dark holiday event – Season’s Screamings!
Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and make sure you are signed up for our mailing list so that we can keep you informed about what’s happening in the community and what our plans are as we begin the march toward Midsummer Scream 2021.
We thank our vendors, theme park partners, haunters, and team for the work and excitement that goes into Midsummer Scream. And to the entire Halloween community, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering support.
Words cannot adequately express the disappointment we all share. We will get through this together!
-David Markland, Claire Dunlap, Gary Baker, Rick West, and the entire Midsummer Scream Team
