Michelle Rodriguez Addresses Green Lantern Rumors and Minorities in Hollywood

Last week, a very farfetched rumor came out about Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious) possibly being the next Green Lantern that we see on the big screen. The version of Green Lantern that she was rumored to play was Jessica Cruz, who is a fairly new character. Well, TMZ caught up with Rodriguez and asked her the big question. Will she be the next Green Lantern?

Rodriguez answered: (Laughs) “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I think it’s so stupid because of this whole like…this whole minorities in Hollywood thing. It’s so stupid, it’s like stop stealing the white people’s superheroes…like make up your own you know what I’m sayin’?”

She later posted a video apologizing about the “stealing white people’s superhero” comment. In the apology video, Rodriguez wanted to clarify what she really meant. Rodriguez said “instead of making a girl character into a guy or instead of trying to turn a white character into a black character or Latin character, I think that people should stop being lazy and make an effort in Hollywood to develop their own mythology. It’s time to stop trying to…take what’s already there and try to fit a culture into it. It’s time for us to start writing our own mythology, every culture. So that’s what I really meant. I’m sorry if it came off rude or stupid, that’s not what I meant so…cheers.”

Do you agree with Rodriguez?
