Actress Ming-Na, who is best known for her work on NBC’s “ER,” has landed one of the lead roles for ABC and Marvel TV’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.” Ming-Na will portray Agent Melinda May. A brief character description reads:
“Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can — and has — gone beyond the call of duty. The character was originally listed on the pilot’s casting breakdown as Agent Althea Rice, a.k.a. The Cavalry.”
Ming-Na is the second actor cast in “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” joining Clark Gregg, who is reprising his “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “The Avengers“ role as Agent Phil Coulson.
Writer/director Joss Whedon will co-write the pilot alongside his brother Jed Whedon, and his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen. Production on the live-action project will begin immediately, with Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen executive producing alongside Jeffrey Bell and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb.
Veteran Ming-Na, who is reverting to her full name, Ming-Na Wen, comes to “S.H.I.E.L.D.” with solid sci-fi credentials after recent stints on Syfy’s “Eureka,” and “Stargate Universe.”
