When it was earlier reported that Mads Mikkelsen was in talks to play the villain opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange, many thought that it would be to obvious. Well now with the release of the first images from the film, EW confirms that Mikkelsen is playing the film’s villain.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explains that in the film, that Doctor a Strange and The Ancient one have to stop “scary things” from harming humanity. EW reports that Mikkelsen‘s character is:
“a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect,” says the Marvel Studios boss. “[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”
So who could Mikkelsen be playing? The role of Baron Mordo already belongs to co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor, so would he be playing Dormammu, Doctor Strange’s main villain.
The film also stars Rachel McAdams as Night Nurse and Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West. Doctor Strange opens November 4, 2016. Here’s the official logline:
