Recently, it was revealed that the Power Rangers reboot film, which was to be released in July of 2016, is now being pushed back to January of 2017. The Wrap have some new details as to why the film is being moved from a big Summer release to a Winter release.
At a meeting Friday morning, Lionsgate executives discussed the company’s upcoming slate of films. At this meeting, there was discussion of the Power Rangers film being pushed back in which Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman said:
“We’re very excited and with Dean’s [Israelite] vision; we felt very comfortable looking for opportunistic dating. We really believe that great movies deliver no matter what date they’re on.”
Other executives went on to say that they look at Power Rangers is a “significant series of movies” and that they [Lionsgate] are picking a date where they think they can win.
The new release date for the Power Rangers film is now Jan. 13, 2017.
