After months of different business deals and one company trying to outbid the other, it looks like Disney has now bought Fox Studios assets such as James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, some of their TV Networks, and most importantly their Marvel characters.
Comcast tried to step in with a $65 million bid, but it could not top Disney’s $71.3 billion. For context, they purchased Lucasfilm for only around $4 billion, which is a steal. According to some sources, this deal was finalized within only eight minutes.
So when will we see the likes of the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is wondering the same thing. He said “I just sit waiting for a call yay or nay from people far above me.” We probably won’t hear any more solid news until after the release of Fox’s The New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Pheonix. After those films, it would be safe to assume that Disney start over these characters with a clean slate.
