It’s time to start practicing as Evolution 2018 is almost upon us. Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar along with Mark “Markman” Julio announced the main titles that will appear on stage for this year which includes quite a few returning favorites along with two brand new releases.
The King of the Iron Fist Tournament will return as one of the main games at EVO 2017. Tekken has always been a fan favorite game and one player everyone will be watching out for is last year’s winner Echo Fox’s Kim “JDCR” HyunJin.
Super Smash Bros Wii U:
Appearing for it’s fourth year in a row, Super Smash Bros for the Wii U is one game that fans love watching as popular Nintendo characters fight for dominance to see who is the very best!
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition:
It’s no surprise to see that Street Fighter V is on the EVO main stage once again. Last month, Capcom release an update for the game that really makes the game stand out a lot more than it’s vanilla version by adding new V-Triggers for each character, overhauled the UI and added some new content. The addition of new characters including Sakura as well as the still to be released Cody, Blanka, Sagat, Falke and G could make all the difference as well.
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle:
It was announced that Blazblue Cross Tag Battle would be a main title at this year EVO but we also learned that the game will see a release in North America in June (May in Japan) meaning players will have a month to practice.
Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2:
Blazblue Cross Tag Battle won’t be the only Arc System Works title that will appear as a main title at EVO 2018. It was revealed that Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 will be making a return this year to the main stage.
Injustice 2 will make it’s return to EVO, however, there are a few new characters set to join the roster including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Atom and Enchantress. NetherRealm Studios will hold a stream tomorrow which will show the Ninja Turtles in action and more than likely announce the release date for the season 3 DLC characters.
Super Smash Bros. Melee:
There was a little bit of doubt if Super Smash Bros. Melee would once again return to the main stage of EVO, luckily the game was confirmed as the second to last game selected for this year. Melee has a huge dedicated fan base and it;s great seeing the game once again appear. Who knows, maybe this could be the year that Nintendo reveals a Switch port of the game!
Dragon Ball FighterZ:
Dragon Ball FighterZ was easily one of the most anticipated fighting games when it was announced in 2017. The game has been doing amazing since launch reaching over 2 million sales in it’s first week and not only looks beautiful but plays exactly how you would expect a Dragon Ball game would. While published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game was developed by Arc System Works making it the third title the developer will have on the main stage.
It was announced that sign-ups for EVO 2018 will take place starting next Thursday, February 15th 2018. This year the event will take place on August 3rd to 5th in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
