The brother and sister fairy tale duo are back for some more witch hunting…according to JoBlo which reported that Paramount Pictures have confirmed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 will be here in 2016.
Not much more was said about the sequel other than Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are assumed to come back because both stars apparently signed contracts for multiple films, when they signed on for the first film. Cinema Blend got some answers about that and about what the sequel will be about.
During the blu-ray release, Cinema Blend had a chance to talk to Adam McKay who produced the first film. They asked about if Renner and Arterton would be back and also asked about what we could expect from the sequel. Here’s what McKay had to say:
“I don’t think deals, and dates and schedules have been done. In fact, I’m positive that hasn’t been done. But there have been early discussions, and both of them loved working with Tommy. So, you know, Jeremy and Gemma are both very busy actors and we’re just starting on the script right now. So, everything is in its early stages. But I know they had the best time doing the movie and really loved the way it played worldwide. Everyone feels like as good as the first one is, we can really jack it up a level with the second one. So, fingers crossed everyone will come back.”
Here’s what McKay told about the plans for the sequel:
“Well, I’m not going to tell you specifically. I know what the storyline is but I will say—I’ll give one hint. Think of different kinds of witchcraft.”
