Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K UHD Review: What a Lovely 4K

It’s September and we still have Oscar season ahead but so far Furiosa is the best movie of the year. And it was no surprise it would look amazing on 4K UHD but now that it’s out I can confirm.

The desert wasteland in broad daylight still looks like The Road Warrior, but the red sandstomr and blue night is pure Fury Road. The Green Place is only in the beginning but it provides a lush contrast for what’s to come.

The Volume work is still glaring but it’s inserts between rolling caravans and parachutes so I give them a break.

The sounds of revving engines surround the viewer, and dialogue echoes in caverns. But it’s the Junkie XL score that sounds like the Mad Max wasteland.

A hour-long documentary plus four more 10-minute features makes a feature length look inside the making of the film. The hour-long has time for segments on the film’s development, War Pup Quaden Bayless, reshearsals, the new Immortan Joe and all the departments. You get to watch them construct the vehicles and  demonstrate weapons in longer detail than the quick killshot featured in the movie.

I never would have imagined Anya Taylor-Joy didn’t shave her head. She would have, but they used a cap for scheduling purposes, filming hair scenes and shaved scenes out of orrder.

These can be tedious for average movies so it’s a credit to the material that every aspect of Furiosa has an interesting story behind it. Watching the behind the scenes stunts is as thrilling as they look in the film.
