Exclusive Interview: Hayley Kiyoko Talks INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 and More!

635620500027483301-Insidious001Last week we had a chance to chat with actress and singer Hayley Kiyoko the morning before the red carpet premiere of Insidious: Chapter 3 in Hollywood.  Although we were lucky to catch up with her on the red carpet later that night, this interview was conducted on the phone in the morning. Kiyoko  chatted with us about some great stuff including her music, her role in Insidious: Chapter 3 and much more.

Louis Love: You play Maggie in Insidious: Chapter 3. How did you get involved with the project?

Hayley Kiyoko: I had done Gem and the Holograms for Blumhouse that stars Stefanie Scott.  She got the lead for Insidious: Chapter 3 and Maggie was a perfect role for me because Stefanie and I have great chemistry.  It’s just clicked.

Louis Love: Have you always been a fan of horror films? And, if yes, do you have a favorite one?

Hayley Kiyoko: I definitely respect the horror film world because it’s very difficult to make a scary movie. I get scared so easily, you know at the premiere I’m going to be the one screaming the loudest.

Louis Love: You’ve done stuff like Scooby-Doo, a family film, and now horror. What’s the biggest difference? Is it a culture shock? How do you prepare for it?

Hayley Kiyoko: I haven’t really been preparing I just take baby steps. I did The Fosters, and I did The Vampire Diaries. All these different shows are leading to the next big thing. It’s very exciting to be a part of this franchise and it was such a fun role. I’m also excited to continue my music and acting.

Louis Love: I see that there are rumors of future Insidious films. Would you like to be part of this franchise again?

Hayley Kiyoko:  Yeah! I love Jason Blum and I love the Insidious franchise. It was so much fun and the cast and crew were great.  What makes these good is that it’s not just about the blood it’s about the story.

Louis Love: Where would you take your character Maggie next?

Hayley Kiyoko:  I have no idea. It would be up to Leigh Whannell.  It would be fun if I got to interact with some scary things.

Louis Love:  Horror films have evolved to the point now where everything looks very realistic.   How does your family react when they see you in a scary situation like that?

Hayley Kiyoko:  I don’t know, but we will find out tonight at the premiere.

Louis Love:  You spoke a bit about filming Jem and the Holograms, how was that experience?

Hayley Kiyoko:  It was great.  It comes out in October. Universal is putting it out. I got to wear blue hair.  I got to work with incredible female actresses like Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald.  It was really cool to be part of that ensemble.

Louis Love:  Besides Jem and the Holograms, what’s next for you?

Hayley Kiyoko:  I’m about to go on a tour at the end of June for my music. So, if you go to my website ( http://www.hayleykiyokoofficial.com/.)  I’m starting season 2 for CSI: Cyber in July, so I’ll be heavily into that.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is now showing in theaters everywhere.
