Australian actress Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) is in early talks to star in Dreamworks’ “Ghost in the Shell.” “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders will direct.
The live-action film is based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name created by Masamune Shirow. The plot will follow the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Public Security Section 9. Its members are among the best cyber warfare operatives in the country, and as a result usually end up involved in cases relating to the Internet, such as hacking and cyberterrorism.
Avi Arad (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2,”) Steven Paul (“Ghost Rider”) and Mark Sourian (“Need for Speed”) are producing, while Bill Wheeler (“The Hoax”) wrote the script.
Robbie will co-star with Will Smith in the WB’s upcoming “Focus,” and she’ll soon be seen alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”) and Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) in “Z For Zachariah.” She is currently filming “Tarzan” with Alexander Skarsgard.
