We are just under a month away from the release of Dragon Ball FighterZ and to be honest I couldn’t be any more hyped for it’s release. Developed by Guilty Gear/BlazBlue series creator Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ is a fighting game that incorporates a great 3 vs 3 mechanic and gives each character their own unique fighting style that is pulled straight out of the anime and it couldn’t be more perfect with a nice roster for characters announced.
When I was first able to get my some hands-on time with the playable build, I was already hooked. While there were only a few playable characters including Vegeta, Goku, Gohan, Fat Buu, Freiza and Cell it was more than enough to get me into the game with fast paced action, quick tags, responsive controls and some of the most amazing visuals in a fighting game yet. We’ve seen Dragon Ball fighting game (and I mean a lot of them) over the years by various developers but Arc System Works nails the Dragon Ball series perfectly.
Soon after we started getting more characters announced including Piccolo, Trunks, Krillin, Android 16, Adult Gohan, Android 18 with Android 17 and then more recently the addition of Tien Shinhan, Yamcha, Nappa, Captain Ginyu, Kid Buu, Gotenks, along with the addition of Dragon Ball Super characters Hit, Beerus, and Goku Black. While I love the cast of characters I thought we’ve seen a lot of these fighters before and honestly I would of loved to see more unique characters including a few from Dragon Ball Super but then again with the series being in development of some time now, we can hopefully expect to see characters like Toppo, Jiren, Kefla, Ribrianne and Cabba (characters who appear in the current Japanese Dragon Ball Super Arc) added later as DLC.
The game itself is already looking to have a strong tournament presence due to so many players in the Fighting Game Community ready to jump into the game on day one. It’s something no previous Dragon Ball game has had to date but this is again thanks to Arc System Works really taking this fighting game to a whole new level. Luckily rather than wait to see more of the game, we’ve had Open Beta so players could get some hands on time with the game and more recently Bandai Namco Entertainment releasing character breakdowns which show off what the characters can do.
If you haven’t seen any of the character breakdowns, here is a link to a few so you can get an idea of how a few characters will play:
“The Legendary Assassin” Hit:
“The God of Destruction” Beerus:
Yamcha (The Weakest Fighter in Dragon Ball FighterZ?):
And last but not least, here is a look at the opening cinematic for Dragon Ball FighterZ!
Get ready for a whole new level of battle as Dragon Ball FighterZ releases on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on January 26, 2018.
