In a surprising turn, Beau DeMayo , creator of the new version of the animated saga, X-MEN 97, was fired just two weeks ahead of the series’ premiere on Disney+…
No specific reason for the Showrunner’s firing has been given. But according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, DeMayo’s company email has been deactivated, and cast and crew involved with the series were notified that he would no longer be working on the project. DeMayo’s Instagram account has also been deactivated, and he was uninvited to the premier, leading many to wonder what happened…. OUCH! That’s harsh…
Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum commented on the recent move to fire showrunner Beau DeMayo.
In a statement made to Variety, Winderbaum praised DeMayo for his work on Seasons 1 and 2 of X-Men ’97, the latter of which DeMayo was reported to have been working on prior to being let go from the series.
“He did excellent work writing Seasons 1 and 2, and I can’t wait for fans to see the series,” Winderbaum said. “The entire team came together to create a revival worthy of the X-Men’s 60-year legacy. From Stan and Jack, to Claremont, to the Lewalds, we all truly were standing on the shoulders of giants.”
That’s a lot of praise for someone fired so abruptly and completely , with no actual explanation given. Though rumor has it, so take this with a grain of salt, that some inappropriate social media posts may be the culprit.
