James Gunn shared a picture of him and Zach Snyder on X, with the caption, “Always a pleasure catching up with my friend @ZackSnyder, consummate filmmaker (and a doubly consummate storyteller!)”
And now Snyderverse fans are wondering if this means that Zach Snyder could come back and direct something in the new Gunn DCU.
My opinion is that this definitely means ‘something’. Because James Gunn is pretty social media savvy. And he would know that a picture like this is going to cause a stir in the fandom. So why did he post it? I think there are three possibilities…
1) It could be an attempt to show that the former Superman director is on board with Gunn’s new version. Or at least that there is no animosity about it.
Or…
2) Gunn could be testing the waters to see how fans would react to the idea of a new Zack Snyder directed DCU film.
(Now I would be on board with that, as long as Zack Snyder was directing and not writing. Rebel Moon was a disaster.)
Or…
3) Gunn decided to post this picture, just to yank our collective chains. And get us talking about nothing. He is a bit of a trickster.
So what do you think? Does posting this picture on social media mean anything at all? And if it does, how would you feel about a Zack Snyder return?
