This weekend on their official Youtube channel, Crunchyroll dropped the trailer for the upcoming limited theatrical run of The Saga of Tanya the Evil. The film takes place after the events of the anime after “she won the battle, but the war is only beginning” as several scenes play out in the 1 minute trailer.
A brief synopsis of the upcoming film:
The time is UC 1926. The Imperial Army’s 203rd Air Mage Battalion led by Major Tanya Degurechaff has won the battle to the south against the Republic’s stragglers. They expected to be given a vacation after returning victorious, but instead receive special orders from Staff HQ as soon as they get home. They are told that there were signs of a large-scale deployment near the Empire-Federation border.
The anime first aired back in 2017 and revolves around Tanya, a magical reincarnation of a bitter Japanese salaryman. With the help of her team of sages, she tries to steer the winds of war no matter the cost and in the process, pushing the Empire into becoming one the strongest powers in the planet. The anime itself is a bit nuts as Tanya, the anit-hero, is incredibly intense and a little insane, thus making the magic of an over-the-top type of anime come true.
The Saga of Tanya the Evil will be in select theaters on May 17th only.
