Guardians of the Galaxy features a variety of characters. Characters that range from a giant talking tree Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) to an alien woman Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana) who is said to be the deadliest woman in the galaxy, but none are as random & strange of a character as Rocket Raccoon. The wise cracking, demolition loving Racoon.
During the celebration for the 100th episode of Parks & Recreation, Access Hollywood caught up with Chris Pratt who plays Star Lord in the upcoming film & they asked him about Rocket Raccoon (who is voiced by Bradley Cooper).
“You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not; it’s a very real creature,” Pratt said. “[He has been] tortured his whole life & no one else likes him, so he’s lonely & he’s angry & it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character]. You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [&] hopefully will come to life. I think it will & that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role.”
Pratt also goes on to say, “I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon. It’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect.”
Rocket Raccoon first appeared in Marvel Preview #7 in 1976 & was created by Bill Mantlo & artist Keith Giffen, which were inspired by the very famous Beatles song “Rocky Raccoon.” Originally he was captain of the ship Rack ‘n’ Ruin & served as the ranger of his planet Halfworld. Rocket is a skilled gunslinger as well as being gifted military tactician who is fearless, loyal, & insightful.
