“No one’s ever really gone…”

These words could not have rung any truer than today, the lovable Peter Mayhew who portrayed “The Mighty Chewbacca” has passed away at the age of 74. Mayhew starred as Chewbacca in Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was a “Chewbacca” consultant on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Between filming movies and his other creative endeavors, Mayhew was a mainstay on the comic book convention scene. He made countless appearances over the years and loved meeting his fans, signing autographs and posing for photos at various events. His most recent appearance was at Star Wars Celebration Chicago just a few weeks ago. Mayhew’s family announced his passing via Twitter earlier today.

The staff here at Nuke The Fridge give our deepest condolences to the Mayhew family and would also like to say thank you, Peter Mayhew, for taking us to a galaxy, far far away and inspiring dreams of piloting the Millenium Falcon right by your side. God speed and May The Force Be With You.
