“Avengers: Age of Ultron” doesn’t hit theaters until next May and already rumors are hitting the web as to which team members will not be making an appearance in the third avengers film. Badass Digest claims that instead of using the same team in “Avengers 3”, Marvel would save Cap, Thor, and Hulk for another film entirely and use a new team of Avengers in the third film. It would include unknown characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that have yet to make an appearance so that Marvel can use “Avengers 3” as a jumping off point to possibly set up their own spin-offs after Avengers 3.
Marvel has limited contracts with their stars (Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr.) and those contracts will end by the time Marvel’s Phase Three set of films open in theaters. Phase Three will consist of “Ant-Man”, “Doctor Strange”, “Captain America 3”, and “Thor 3” which will span from 2015-2017. Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth have two movies left on their six-picture deal, which includes a third solo entry and another Avengers film, while Robert Downey Jr. is only appearing in Avengers 2 & 3. Mark Ruffalo signed a six-picture deal and Jeremy Renner signed a three-picture deal with an option for a solo Hawkeye film. Scarlet Johansson signed a six-picture deal similar to Evans and Hemsworth, which includes the rumored Black Widow spin-off.
If the rumor is true the next part is speculating what mystery film Marvel will save the core Avengers team for. Marvel’s Civil War or Marvel’s Infinity Guantlet? It’s possible that the Guardians of the Galaxy will eventually team-up with the Avengers in a future crossover movie featuring Thanos who has been rumored to be the main villain for “Avengers 3” so it is possible that Marvel would start a brand new crossover film featuring the mad Titan take on the Guardians and the Avengers.
