Nuke the Fridge made this announcement on December 30, 2010, but cinemablend.com has confirmed that archer extraordinaire Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will cameo in the upcoming “Thor” feature. Hawkeye is a regular member of Marvel’s Avengers comic book. Renner, a two-time Academy Award nominee, is the perfect choice to play the edgy and unpredictable marksman.
Cinemablend.com had this to say:
The scene we saw featured Renner as Hawkeye, working with the infamous Agent Coulson, played as he was in the Iron Man movies, by Clark Gregg. The scene features Hawkeye using his famous bow and arrow and he has multiple lines, so while we’re talking about something a little more than a momentary cameo, there’s no way to know if his involvement will go any further than that one scene.
Other than seeing Hawkeye in “Thor,” he will have a bigger role in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” which debuts in 2012. Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, is scheduled to appear near the end of the film. No one knows the capacity at which Hawkeye will play a role in the feature, but it is confirmed he will have a part, perhaps to give an invitation to the God of Thunder to join the Avengers superhero team. The designated character to make this offer was S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson, but he is not credited as appearing in the film.
“Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth (as Thor,) Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba, and Rene Russo. It is scheduled for a May 6th release. Kenneth Branagh directs.
