Actress Krysten Ritter Cast as Marvel’s JESSICA JONES in Netflix Series

Five actresses: Krysten Ritter, Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer, Marin Ireland and Jessica De Gouw tested for the role of former Marvel superhero turned private detective Jessica Jones. The choice came down to Krysten Ritter and Teresa Palmer. After a chemistry reading with actor Mike Colter (“The Following,”) who is believed to be the male lead and hero for hire Luke Cage, Ritter edged out Palmer for the part.

The Netflix-Marvel pact is the second in a four-series deal. The 13-episode drama will center on Jessica Jones, a superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.

Ritter is a veteran of several comedy pilots and had a role on the AMC drama “Breaking Bad” as well as playing Chloe in the ABC television comedy “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23” from 2012-2013. She will next be seen in Tim Burton’s “Big Eyes.”

Marvel had no comment at this time.
