Writer/producer/director Joss Whedon and Marvel Television are currently casting ABC’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot at top speed. Another agent has been added to the team with actor Brett Dalton joining the cast. Dalton will portray Agent Grant, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s highly-skilled rising stars. He’s deadly, precise, and cool under fire, but has poor people skills.
Dalton is an up and coming actor with guest roles on “Blue Bloods” and “Army Wives.” He will appear in the National Geographic Channel’s soon to be seen telepic “Killing Lincoln.” Here’s the breakdown of the current five member “S.H.I.E.L.D.” squad and their particular area of expertise.
Clark Gregg – Agent Phil Coulson, team leader
Ming-Na – Agent Melinda May, top-notch pilot and weapons expert
Elizabeth Henstridge – Agent Gemma Simmons, science whiz
Iain De Caestecker – Agent Leo Fitz, a technology guru
Brett Dalton – Agent Grant, unspecified, but he’s good at what he does
S.H.I.E.L.D. is an acronym for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, which roughly translates to making the organization a global peacekeeping force. The potential series will take place in the same universe that is home to Marvel’s “The Avengers.” The pilot will focus largely on original characters. It is scheduled to start filming sometime this January with a fall season debut.
Writer/director Joss Whedon will co-write the pilot alongside his brother Jed Whedon, and his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen. Production on the live-action project will begin immediately, with Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen executive producing alongside Jeffrey Bell and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb. Joss Whedon will direct the pilot if his schedule permits.
