“HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD” AT HOLLYWOOD’S PANTAGES THEATER … MY THOUGHTS

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child….. NOW THROUGH JUNE 22nd

The story follows Harry’s son Albus and his friend Scorpius Malfoy, Draco Malfoy’s son, who become friends at Hogwarts. As they attempt to change the past using a stolen time-turner. The play explores themes of family, legacy, and the power of friendship, while featuring spectacular spells, time travel, and an epic battle.

MY THOUGHTS… The show was a magical delight. You definitely feel like these are indeed real wizards and witches, and that those wands really work.  In fact, some of the spectacular events that happen on stage feel like real magic.

And Harry, Ron, and Hermione, are all grown adults now. So it takes a few moments to get used to that. But once you do, it feels like old times.

The story is filled with unexpected twists and turns. (I was gifted the book years ago, but never read it)  And I found that going into the play without expectations or spoilers, was a good thing. Because I didn’t know who, or what to expect.

That being said; The story felt a little rushed and Overstuffed, and a few of the characters definitely felt underserved. But I attribute that to the fact that the play was initially done in two parts. Each part over two hours long. While this version of the play is one long, three hour version. Which means that a lot of adjustments had to be made, due to the consolidation. And some nuances were probably lost.

BUT, I think that this continuation of the Harry Potter story is well worth the price of admission. (and I can say that because I paid for my ticket myself) And I will probably go see it again before it leaves on June 22.

*NOTE: the last thing I’ll say is this… Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is for Harry Potter fans. The story relies on the fact that you know what has come before. And if you go into this, and you haven’t at least seen the movies, you will be lost and confused. But, if you are a fan, you will find yourself happy and cheering when the curtain comes down.
