Den of Thieves 2: Pantera takes the franchise overseas to Nice. 4K UHD highlights those international locations with the grittiness of the mob heists. Daylight makes the countryside shine, especially during the big car chase, but the film employs a lot of night shoots against a pure black sky.
As loud or louder than the first movie, that means a surround sound cacophony when violence goes down.
Even though the film is nearly two and a half hours, there is still 18 minutes of deleted scenes. The most notable omission is a lost in translation/fish out of water car trouble as Nick (Gerard Butler) and Donnie (O’shea Jackson Jr.) try to figure out a French car.
A 20 minute behind the scenes feature highlights how writer/director Christian Gudegast’s research for the first film found its way into a new story. But he goes into much more detail in a commentary with the editor and cinematographer where they can go scene by scene about each thread on the canvas.
