Elvira’s big break was hosting a movie show where she made fun of the movies she showed. In the ‘80s, she got to be the star of her own movie, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. She’s a fun character with childish innuendo so it’s a shame she didn’t get more vehicles (besides a straight to video follow-up), but it’s fun to revisit Mistress in 4K.
The black and white movie clips actually look great. When it goes into the actaul Elvira movie, you see all the film grain and ‘80s colors. Elvira’s wig and gown are deep goth black, especially in bright daylight settings. Her car is a shiny black too.
When she inherits a house, there are nice dark corners to explore and dark and stormy nights outside.
The Arrow 4K UHD includes the previous three commentary tracks and bonus features. John Paragon was alive when he recorded with Cassandra Peterson and Edie McClurg so it’s great to hear them talk about the Groundlings.
