It is a shame they did not preserve the IMAX frame for the Dune: Part 2 home release but it still looks great in 4K UHD. The desert has several different looks, from muted in the brightest daylight to reddened within the cliffs. Bright flames and the sun bring orange color to the scenes.
Shadows are subtle and created throughout the unique environments. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson’s blue eyes pierce through the scenes.
The black and white sequence emphasizes the paleness of Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler) and the Barron (Stellan Skarsgard).
The sound of Dune: Part 2 can be just as striking as the visuals. The opening Saraukar language echoes in the surround speakers. The score always surrounds you with all the unique instruments Hans Zimmer layers in. The harvesters and sandworms rumble.
When the Fremen are within the harvester, the harvester is truly all around you. The whistle of sandstorms and slithering worms also surround.
Dune is always heaven for design so eight bonus features on specific aspects of the film present the artists’ work. I like how they always need more sand and dust blown onto the scene.
