Ocean’s Trilogy 4K UHD: Ocean’s 4000

The Ocean’s movies have been in 4K on HBO max but physical 4K UHDs are the ultimate. Steven Soderbergh uses colors for these capers like he did in Traffic and Out of Sight and 4K highlights them all.

So there are golden casinos, red light backrooms and bars and other tints. Wardrobe highlights colors too from Tess (Julia Roberts)’s red dress to Frank (Bernie Mac)’s polo shirt. Ruben (Elliott Gould) wears a bright red track suit.

All the films have impressive shadow too. 11 begins as soon as Danny Ocean (George Clooney) leaves prison. In 12 it’s the darkness in Isabel (Catherine Zeta-Jones)’s apartment when Rusty (Brad Pitt) bolts, and again when Danny is awoken by the fake wakeup call. You get to watch the silhouette of Toulour (Vincent Cassell) do the laser dance.)

13 actually has the most shadow, from Ruben’s meeting with Bank (Al Pacino) at the construction sight at night, to the Ocean’s gang meeting in a parking garage, dim hotel rooms and the tunnel under the casino. The guys also wear black tuxedos and suits in all the films which make nice silhouettes.

12 also has the most international locations to see in 4K, and all the bright colored lasers. There is some pixelation in the Vegas daylight outside.

Surround sound is minimal, mainly audible when there is a boxing match in 11 and the crowd fills the rears. Bonus features from the original DVD releases and 2014 Blu-rays are both included.
