Scary Movie 2026 Gets Earlier Release Date as Marlon Wayans Revives the Classic Parody!

The legendary parody franchise Scary Movie is officially hitting theaters sooner than expected this summer.

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans revealed that the new film has moved its release date up one week, shifting from June 12 to June 5. The announcement came through social media, where Wayans told fans that the movie is currently in the editing stage and the team decided to release it earlier due to the strong excitement surrounding the project.

This upcoming movie is the sixth entry in the Scary Movie franchise, arriving more than a decade after Scary Movie 5. It also marks a major return for the Wayans family, who helped create and shape the early films but haven’t been involved since Scary Movie 2. Their return has already sparked nostalgia among longtime fans of the horror-comedy series.

The date change also helps the film avoid opening the same weekend as Disclosure Day, a highly anticipated project from legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg that is scheduled for June 12. However, the earlier release still places the comedy in a crowded weekend at the box office.

On June 5, Scary Movie will compete with several other big titles, including Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios, the live-action/animated comedy Animal Friends starring Ryan Reynolds, and the music-themed comedy Power Ballad featuring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.

The news comes just after the movie’s first trailer started making the rounds online. The preview originally debuted in theaters ahead of Scream 7, a fitting placement since the Scary Movie series famously spoofs major horror franchises.

The trailer also teases a long list of films and shows that could be parodied in the new installment. Among them are M3GAN, Wednesday, Get Out, Smile, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the cult horror hit Terrifier.

With the original creators returning and a new generation of horror movies to poke fun at, the next Scary Movie is aiming to bring back the outrageous comedy that made the franchise a global hit  just in time for the start of the summer movie season.
