We’ve arrived at the midway point of the Supergirl hiatus and to rev us up for the Girl of Steel’s return on April 24, The CW has unleashed a VFX breakdown from the show’s sixth episode of this season titled “Changing.”

That is the episode that introduces scientist Dr. Rudy Jones (William Mapother), a.k.a. Parasite, to the Arrowverse. Parasite is one of Superman’s most menacing antagonists from the comics. At the end of the episode, Supergirl was able to defeat Parasite by having it absorb Plutonium-239 — which caused it to explode. You can see how they blended digital and practical effects for that explosive moment.

Supergirl returns on April 24 at 8 p.m. on the CW with a new episode titled “Ace Reporter.”
