“Gifted”, the new TV series based on Marvel’s X-Men has begun production with a familiar face. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner (Legion, Deadpool, Logan) shared an image of Amy Acker (Angel, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Person of Interest) in the pilot episode directed by Bryan Singer.

“‘The Gifted’ night shooting. Bryan Singer directing, Amy Acker acting,” Donner tweeted.

Acker stars as Kate Stewart, a mother who discovers her child has mutant powers. Out of fear for her child, they go on the run from a hostile U.S government. The family allies itself with an underground network of other mutants fighting to survive.

“Gifted” also stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood) as Reed Stewart, the father; Natalie Alan Lind as Lauren Stewart, the mutant child; and Jamie Chung as Clarice Ferguson/Blink, a mutant with the ability to open portals and teleport.

Blair Redford is Sam, the leader of a group of mutants in hiding; Emma Dumont (Aquarius) as Lorna Dane/Polaris, whose powers enable her to sense and control magnetism.
Sean Teale as Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (a mutant original to the show), and Coby Bell as Jace Turner, “a weathered man who quietly wrestles with the moral ambiguities of a job that regularly requires cold-blooded, calculating efficiency on a day-to-day basis.” He sounds like a government goon/fixer to me.

The FOX Studios X-Men TV series is being overseen by Matt Mix (Burn Notice), who wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producer along with Donner. X-Men movie writer/producer Simon Kinberg, Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and Bryan Singer all serve as producers.
